Our top essential things to take on a campervan holiday

Packing the right things for your campervan holiday can be stressful at the best of times as you don’t want to miss out any essential items – particularly when there’s the whole family to consider! Unlike most other types of holiday, a campervan holiday is slightly different as there are certain home comforts that different people need in order to make life bearable when home is just a distant memory.

Of course, you can always stop off at a shop or a supermarket if there’s something you really need – but getting your packing list perfectly in order in the first place is always a great place to start.

Clothes

In a perfect world, the sun would shine every day of the week and everyone would be fine in shorts and t-shirts.  However, the UK weather provides a completely different story so remember to pack raincoats and wellies – particularly if you are taking the children. Also make sure you have comfortable, casual clothing for lounging around in the motorhome  after a long day out sightseeing.

Fun and games

Children, and grown-ups, get bored on long journeys so it’s a good idea to take something that will keep everyone on board occupied.  Older children will usually be quite content with iPods and smart phones, but younger kids will be better suited with colouring books and activity games.  Cards and dominoes are good for grown-ups and teenagers and they encourage the family to interact with each other.

Food & kitchenware

Although you will probably already be covered for items such as pots and pans – don’t forget the smaller essentials such as washing up liquid, sponges and tea towels.  Tea and coffee, long-life milk, sugar, cordials and long-life bread and cereal are always a good idea – although you can always top up at a local supermarket.

Toilet & bathroom

Loo rolls, towels, soap and toothpaste should also be packed when going away in a motorhome – along with other items such as shower gel and shampoo.  You don’t want to be caught out shorthanded if you are staying overnight in an unfamiliar place with no nearby shops or facilities.

Other items

Finally, make sure you pack a fully stocked first aid kit with any medications you might require – along with a torch (and batteries) and any items you might need whilst spending time in the immediate vicinity outside your motorhome.  Accessories such as plastic chairs, beach balls and ground blankets.
