Activities to enjoy whilst travelling in your motorhome
If you are about to take the family on a campervan vacation and you are stuck for ideas on how to keep everybody occupied whilst travelling long distances by road then here are some fun games to play which will help keep the boredom at bay!
What colour is the next car?
This is a simple game that the whole family can enjoy. Everybody picks a unique colour in an attempt to predict the colour of the next car that will pass by your motorhome in the oncoming traffic. Whoever gets the highest number of correct guesses wins the game. If you want to change things around – you can choose vehicle type or manufacturer instead of colour.
Another straightforward game in which the players onboard your campervan have to spot an item outside of your motorhome beginning with the next letter in the alphabet. For example, if you are on the letter B, you could shout out “Bridge” or “Bungalow” should you pass either of these objects. If you were on the letter “C”, then you might spot a “Cow” or a “Chip shop” – and so on. Not as simple as it sounds – especially if you get caught up with a tricky letter!
A fun game where players take turns to think of an animal. The other family members must try to work out what animal this is by asking a series of questions – such as “How many legs does it have?” or “Is it a mammal?”
The family is divided up into two teams – with each group choosing a side of the vehicle to count cows from. The team that counts the highest number of cows through the windows of their side of the RV wins the game. You can either play for a fixed duration – such as an hour, or keep playing until you reach your destination or the end of the motorway.
This is a good way of testing your knowledge of celebrities in a chosen field – such as pop stars or movie actors. The first person thinks of a famous musician, film star or football player, etc. and has to name them aloud. For example, Lady Gaga or Arnold Schwarzenegger . Then the next person needs to name another celebrity in the same field – but beginning with the first letter of the last name of the previous celebrity. So, if the first player chooses to begin with Wayne Rooney – the second player would need to name another famous football player whose initials begin with R – such as Ryan Giggs. The third player would then have to name another famous footballer with initials beginning with G, such as George Best – and so on. This is a lot trickier than it sounds and best suited for adults and “clever” teenagers!
A fun word game which is suitable for young children and adults! The idea is to go through the letters of the alphabet naming items that can be bought at a supermarket – such as Apples, Bananas and Cheese. So, the first person starts with – “I went to the supermarket and I bought some apples” – and the second person repeats the phrases – but adding an item beginning with B – and so on. For example, “I went to the supermarket and I bought some apples and some bread.” The game gets progressively complicated as more and more items are added and provides an excellent means of testing those memory skills.
As you can see, there are some fantastic ways to keep the family occupied which everybody can participate in whilst travelling in a motorhome – and they provide a pleasant change from staring at a mobile phone or shutting everyone out with a pair of headphones. Going on holiday in the family campervan should always be about everybody spending quality time with each other and getting involved in shared activities whilst strengthening family ties.
