Tips for keeping your motorhome value high

A motorhome that has been responsibly taken care of, well respected and completely looked after will obviously fetch a much better price than a campervan that has been heavily used and neglected. So, if you have recently bought a new or used motorhome and you want it to retain as much of its initial value as possible then here are some basic tips that will prove to be well worth your while when it comes to trading it in or selling it to the right buyer.

MOT and annual servicing

If you are serious about protecting the value of your RV, then you should always ensure that it gets serviced at least once a year. Of course, getting your motorhome MOT’d is compulsory and not an option, but you should also make sure that the habitation area in your campervan is serviced regularly to stop any long term problems from arising as these can have a devastating effect on your initial investment when it comes to selling the vehicle on. Also, if you do have any service checks then make sure you keep any documents or certificates as certified proof.

Weatherproofing

If you want to protect the value of your motorhome from the damaging effects of acid rain, road grit, sun damage and other signs of aging, then you should treat the exterior with a specialist product that will provide a protective coating that works all year round. One such product is called Paintseal which you can buy online. It even comes with a guarantee although the sooner you apply these products – the better the level of protection they can offer.

No smoking indoors

By smoking outside your motorhome, you will eliminate the prospect of that lingering smell of cigarette smoke from ruining the upholstery. You will also avoid those unsightly nicotine stains on the ceiling and walls of your campervan which are a complete turn off for most buyers.

Keep pets outside where possible

Although many people treat their dogs like a member of the family, if you take your four legged friend on holiday with you in your motorhome and you eventually plan on selling your campervan then it makes sense to let them sleep outside if you can – whilst keeping them off the upholstery as much as possible. The smell of pets is highly off putting to potential buyers so make sure you use furniture throws and take a dog basket with you if you Bruno is coming along for the ride!

Winter storage

There may be extended periods where you don’t use your motorhome at all – such as during the winter months. If this is the case, then make sure your campervan is stored somewhere safe where it is not liable to pick up any accidental knocks or get scratched. Also make sure there are no mice or rats about if you choose to keep your motorhome somewhere else as you don’t want your RV to be damaged by pests if you are serious about retaining its value. You should also take steps to ensure the pipes don’t crack if there is a big freeze and avoid any damage caused by dampness.
